Are your exercise workouts getting you fit?

Are you getting fit? Is your exercise workout program getting you to your goals? If not, you might not be giving your muscles enough variety.

Just like our brains, our muscles need variety to keep them challenged. Your workouts should include cardio exercise, strength-training and stretching. Yes, it's allright to emphasize one more than the other, but you should practice all 3 throughout the week.

Bob Harper, personal trainer for the Biggest Loser TV series, shares a tip about varying your workout:

If your weight loss seems to have plateaued, change your cardio workout. If you aren't getting the tone and curves you want, increase your weight and decrease the number of repetitions you do. And if you are feeling sore or stiff, you need to focus more on stretching.

Vary at least one component of your exercise routine every 4-6 weeks. For great results with little change, simply reverse the order of your exercises. If you always do your strength-training after your cardio, then strength-train first. If you always stretch last, stretch in the middle of the workout. Just some small changes can make a big difference and get you over that hill!
